En varios pa\u00edses, <i>Y. enterocolitica<\/i> ha eclipsado a la <i>Shigella<\/i> y se acerca a la <i>Salmonella y Campylobacter<\/i> como la principal causa de gastroenteritis bacteriana aguda. Su capacidad de crecer a temperaturas de refrigeraci\u00f3n hace que sea una preocupaci\u00f3n creciente en t\u00e9rminos de seguridad alimentaria. Esta bacteria afecta m\u00e1s com\u00fanmente a personas j\u00f3venes. Sin embargo, s\u00f3lo unas pocas cepas de <i>Y. enterocolitica<\/i> causan enfermedades en los seres humanos. Esas cepas de <i>Y. enterocolitica<\/i> pat\u00f3genas pertenecen a biotipos 1B, 2, 3, 4, y 5, mientras que las cepas del biotipo 1A no son pat\u00f3genas y se encuentran de manera general en el medio ambiente. La mayor reserva animal de <i>Y. enterocolitica<\/i> causante de enfermedades son los cerdos.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vce-text-block performance-heading\"><div class=\"vce-text-block-wrapper vce\" id=\"el-129190b1\" data-vce-do-apply=\"all el-129190b1\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Aplicaci\u00f3n<\/b><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CHROMagar\u2122 Y.enterocolitica es un medio de cultivo cromog\u00e9nico selectivo destinado a la detecci\u00f3n cualitativa directa, la diferenciaci\u00f3n y la presunta identificaci\u00f3n de biotipos pat\u00f3genos de <i>Yersinia enterocolitica.<\/i> La prueba se realiza en muestras de frotis rectal y heces, para ayudar en el diagn\u00f3stico de infecciones por <i>Y. enterocolitica.<\/i> Los resultados pueden interpretarse tras 36-48 h de incubaci\u00f3n aer\u00f3bica a 30 \u00b0C \u00b1 2 \u00b0C.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Es necesario realizar cultivos concomitantes para recuperar organismos con el fin de realizar m\u00e1s pruebas microbiol\u00f3gicas o una tipificaci\u00f3n epidemiol\u00f3gica. La falta de crecimiento o la ausencia de colonias en CHROMagar\u2122 Y.enterocolitica no excluye la presencia de<i> Y. enterocolitica. <\/i>CHROMagar\u2122 Y.enterocolitica no est\u00e1 destinado a diagnosticar la infecci\u00f3n ni a guiar o supervisar el tratamiento de las infecciones.
