Los CDC tambi\u00e9n han se\u00f1alado advertencias de este riesgo potencial:<\/p><br><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00abLa enfermedad causada por la <i>Escherichia coli <\/i>productora de toxina Shiga (STEC) var\u00eda desde diarrea autolimitada hasta colitis hemorr\u00e1gica y s\u00edndrome ur\u00e9mico hemol\u00edtico (SUH). El serotipo O157: H7, el STEC m\u00e1s com\u00fanmente involucrado que causa colitis hemorr\u00e1gica y SUH, se ha aislado de grandes brotes transmitidos por alimentos, as\u00ed como casos espor\u00e1dicos, en Am\u00e9rica del Norte y en el extranjero. Sin embargo, 60 serotipos STEC se han implicado en enfermedades diarreicas y varios serotipos no O157: H7 se han implicado como la causa de brotes transmitidos por alimentos y HUS en los Estados Unidos, Europa y Australia. Los estudios en Canad\u00e1, Europa, Argentina y Australia sugieren que las infecciones por STEC no O157: H7 son tan comunes, o m\u00e1s, que la infecci\u00f3n por O157: H7. \u00ab<\/p><br><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Informe de los CDC \u00abPrevalencia del productor de <i>Escherichia coli<\/i> de la toxina Shiga no O157: H7 en muestras de heces diarreicas [...]\u00bb<\/p><br><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Por lo tanto, varias autoridades reguladoras instan a la industria alimentaria mundial a implementar medidas para controlar la ausencia de estos organismos en su producci\u00f3n.<\/p><br><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En muchos casos, los laboratorios han limitado su b\u00fasqueda de <i>E. coli <\/i>pat\u00f3gena al serotipo com\u00fan O157. Esto se debe, entre otras cosas, al hecho de que no hab\u00eda medio de cultivo selectivo disponible para E. coli no O157.&nbsp;CHROMagar\u2122 STEC est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ado para llenar este vac\u00edo: detecci\u00f3n, en forma de colonias moradas, no solo de STEC O157 cl\u00e1sico, sino tambi\u00e9n de muchos otros serotipos.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vce-text-block performance-heading\"><div class=\"vce-text-block-wrapper vce\" id=\"el-8badd960\" data-vce-do-apply=\"all el-8badd960\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Aplicaci\u00f3n<\/b><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CHROMagar\u2122 STEC es un medio de cultivo cromog\u00e9nico selectivo destinado a la detecci\u00f3n cualitativa directa, la diferenciaci\u00f3n y la presunta identificaci\u00f3n de <i>Escherichia coli <\/i>productora de toxinas similares a la Shiga (STEC), para ayudar en el diagn\u00f3stico de las infecciones por STEC. La prueba se realiza en muestras de frotis rectal y heces. Los resultados pueden interpretarse tras 18-24 h de incubaci\u00f3n aer\u00f3bica a 35-37 \u00b0C.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Es necesario realizar cultivos concomitantes para recuperar los organismos para realizar m\u00e1s pruebas microbiol\u00f3gicas o una tipificaci\u00f3n epidemiol\u00f3gica. La falta de crecimiento o la ausencia de colonias de color malva en CHROMagar\u2122 STEC no excluye la presencia de STEC.
