Lack of Mastitis infection spread control in a cattle is known as a cause of heavy economic losses to milk producers and to the dairy industry. Mastitis causes a reduction in the quantity/quality of milk output, increased veterinary expenses due to excessive use of medications, increased risk of residues in the milk/meat and, consequently the possibility of damage to public health.

The overall financial damage calculated, including cases of subclinical mastitis, indicated losses amounting to $178 - $489 per cow. It has been found that the annual costs of mastitis per cow (irrespective of the severity of infection), were around $200-300 in the USA and France and 120 £ in England. Being a multifactor disease, caused by multiple pathogens, Mastitis control remains a difficult issue. Although, adequate antibiotic therapy can only be oriented if the pathogens causing the infection are clearly identified. 

CHROMagarTM Mastitis is a new commercially available tool for the rapid and simple differentiation of the key bacteria involved in Mastitis infections. This new kit is composed by two different culture media, one for the Gram positive bacteria (GP) and the other for the Gram negative bacteria (GN).

    Gain flexibility using powder rather than ready to use plates: Use the entire pack, or just a portion if there is a need for a smaller number of plates. If kept under appropriate storage temperature, CHROMagarTM Mastitis has a more than 18 months shelf life. This flexibility is essential to avoid the waste resulting from expired-unused plates. 




Combining the performances of our technology, this three-sectors plate contains CHROMagarTM StaphylococcusCHROMagarTM Streptococcus 
and CHROMagarTM Mastitis GN. With the high specificity of the three CHROMagarTM media, this tool allows a very wide differentiation spectrum of microorganisms, particularly interesting in complex matrices like milk from Mastitis cases or animal forensic samples.
